Project Gallery 2023

Secondary students from across Europe became exoplanet detectives with ESA and used Cheops satellite data to uncover the mysteries of two exoplanet targets: KELT-3b and TOI-560c.

TOI-560c

TOI-560c project description:

This project introduces us to astrophysics by teaching and explaining methods of studying the faraway world of exoplanets. It was interesting learning about a subject we don’t normally talk about in school.

TOI-560c Results and Analysis

TOI – 560c is an exoplanet that orbits a star that’s smaller and colder than the sun, because it’s a red star.

The distance between the host star and TOI – 560c is about 8 times smaller than the distance between Earth and the sun, which makes the exoplanet be very hot and receive a lot of radiation, making the existence of liquid water impossible.

By it’s density, we can say it’s a gas planet.

TOI-560c Conclusions

In terms of density, temperature and distance to the host star, TOI – 560c is similar to Mercury.

Comparing this exoplanet’s characteristics to Earth, we can see that it’s temperature is way higher, which excludes the possibility of live as we know it on this planet.
